Sustainability
Kelton's ESG commitment is embedded in its Statement of Purpose. Our Values in selecting only Community Positive and Sustainable Climate Smart Investments, are clear and unambiguous guidelines to qualify, filter and govern Kelton's investment choices and corporate behaviour.
Overview
The focus areas of Kelton's ESG policy are: Climate, Waste, Energy, Water, People & Community.
Kelton's ESG goals are to embed and continuously improve policies and programmes in these six focus areas across Kelton's operations.
Programmes
Kelton Estate Tropical Rain Forest Reserve
Kelton has an achievable goal of "Net-Zero" Carbon Certification in the near future. The 1,000 acre tropical rain forest on Kelton's 2,070 acre farm in Fiji, has been declared a forest reserve for carbon credits to offset Group emissions. The planting of additonal trees on Kelton's other properties will meet any assessed carbon credit shortfalls.
Mango Fish Climate Smart Aquaculture
The Mango Fish project is a response to WWF's Programme for Fiji's Great Sea Reef (GSR) tabled in 2017. Mango Fish is a food security project to mitigate an estimated 70%+ in-shore fishing losses forecast when average global temprature rises 1.5C or more. Mango Fish will have the capacity to achieve Fiji's 10 year National Fisheries Strategic Plan of 1,000T tilapia production per year by 2029.
Lomaiviti Group Managed Marine Area
A project to establish a MMA for the Lomaiviti Group of Islands in Fiji, operated from Naigani Island, arose from commitments made for climate change funding for the Mango Fish project. An area of 30,000 hectares (300 Sq.Kms) is proposed as a Managed Marine Area to preserve spawning stocks of marine life, carried on currents to the Great Sea Reef. Funding contributions to this project will be calculated on a FJ$ fixed sum per Kg of Mango Fish sold.
Kelton's farming practices are organic and incorporate the use of farm green waste, river / sea shore green waste, chicken manure, and organic fertilisers to cultivate TUIKA! crops. Once fully operational, Mango Fish sludge and fish waste water will be used to drip-fertigate a large breadfruit orchard, to achieve circular outcomes
Solar PV Programmes
Kelton has a 5 year programme to install solar PV systems in it's property and farming operations. Options for supplying renewable electricity to rental property tenants have been received from thrid party providers. Ridgeview's affordable homes will have options for grid-connected solar PV
Hybrid Vehicles
With the installation of solar PV systems, EV charging stations will be installed for fleet use. PHEVs are the preferred option for the first round of upgrades for Kelton's legacy ICE fleet.
Rainwater Harvesting
A programme to install reserve water tanks in all of Kelton's rental properties is in process. Factory roof harvested rain water will be used for washing produce and other non-potable needs for Tuikai and Mango Fish processing. Ridgeview affordable homes will have rain water tanks for backup off-grid reserve water supply
Spring Water
Kelton's farm uses spring water flowing through the property to the Pacific ocean, for its agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture operations.
Commmunity Development Projects
Kelton invests in Community Development through its active Pacifique Artisans Collective, Tree of Life Bookshops and the New Fijian Translation Bible projects. Other project proposals are under review, and may soon be added to Kelton's Community Development Portfolio.
Affordable Housing
National Housing Survey results show crisis level data with over 50% of Fiji's homes being rented, in public housing or in squatter settlements. Ridgeview will supply affordable home solutions of middle-class quality, for ownership by minimum wage earning families. Household wealth, national education and health, and social hemogeny outcomes will be transformed by changing the paradigm to make 'public housing social and not financial assets', and making these social assets available in unlimited supply.
Our Commitment
Kelton's Corporate Purpose, Corporate Values and Investment Philosophy are closely aligned with our ESG commitment to being a good corporate citizen in the territories and business sectors we operate.

The monitoring of Kelton Group's ESG policies and programmes are included as standard sections in the Kelton Group Board and Annual Shareholder Meeting Reports.
